Maksudul Alam Science Lab-MASLab starts new events
‘Maksudul Alam Science Lab (MASLab)’ has started a new activity at the office of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association in Dhanmondi to make school-college students interested in practical science education. In this lab named after the famous geneticist Dr. Maksudul Alam, the students of schools and colleges will have the opportunity to do hands-on experiments in physics, chemistry and biology. Along with this, practical training will be arranged for the Bangladesh team of the International Junior Science Olympiad.
10 students of 6th to 8th class from different schools of the capital were present on the first day of the program of the newly organized MASLab last Saturday. They observed onion cells using a microscope.
They also received hands-on training on how to prepare slides for the microscope, how to set up slides. Besides this, how periscope works was taught.
Vice President of Bangladesh Science Popularization Association Munir Hasan, Executive Director of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury and others came to greet the first day's activities.
Attending the first day of the newly designed MASLab, a student named Ismail Mizhi Jisan said, "I really enjoyed participating in this workshop." The place is also very beautiful. He also inquired whether he could come and play Sometimes over there. Jisan studies in the fourth grade of a Jago Foundation school.
Arpita Das, a ninth grade student of Mohammadpur Preparatory School and College, said that she likes chemistry very much. She wants to do all the experiments in her chemistry book by himself in this lab. She and her friends want to be associated with MASLab in all future events.
Md. Rezaul Islam, Facilitator of MASLab, said that, ‘If school and college students are given the opportunity to learn science hands-on, they can go deeper into science. The subject based concept will be clearly understood. Also, learning will be a lot of fun. From that point of view we are planning to organize various practical courses on Physics, Chemistry and Biology very soon’. They also plan to organize different courses for kids called “Hands on Practical Science” for kids.
